There's a small town on the hills between Vittorio Veneto and Conegliano (Treviso Province) where a miracle takes place once a year: the encounter between clay and wine. In Scomigo - that's the name of the village - potters are summoned by the local potter's guild, the "Associazione Piccoli Ceramisti di Scomigo" to show their work and process, to spend a day talking pottery and, last but not least, sip wine. What's better than that!! This is no great gathering, it's the small scale of the event that makes it even more enjoyable, as artists are invited and welcome on a personal basis. The main features in the gathering this year were a visit to a local vineyard that makes organic wine, lunch hosted by the Alpini (the ex Mountain Corps armymen), and a very peaceful afternoon in which potters publicly exhibited their techniques and artwork. I had a lot of fun because I was busy potting and did not bother about actually selling my work. And guess what?? Some of it sold on its own, and paid for the bottles of Prosecco extra dry that I brought home.
