Di impollinazione incrociata ed altri fenomeni/Cross impollination and other phenomena

In altre parole, ho imparato a costruire bijoux.

When I started to make clay beads I thought I wanted to follow the process through, and see what they finally became, whether earrings, or a necklace. I was too jealous to give some of the process away. The fun part was learning how to handle metal and use pliers, a chasing hammer, and learn the meaning of words I had no previous knowledge about: split rings, bead caps and what not. As usual the web was my teacher, and I learnt how to make jewels.

Then glass came along . Teaching myself how to lampwork involved producing a number of beads I could really not see the purpose of, because that's the way I learn, by trial and error. My bead box so grew fuller and fuller with idle little things whose only function in existence was to make me learn.   It was a process I had gone through before. In my early years as a potter the only way to learn was to make, and the results I lavishly gave away to family and friends. Until one day I started to read disappointment in the eyes of the receivers (Oh, let it not be clay again!!). Then I bought a shelving system and started to sell pots.

It was the same thing with my beads, other than they are not finished products, so I can give them away and wait to see what they become. In other words I can interfere with someone else's creative process and let the feedback influence my work, by a phenomenon similar to cross-impollination.

So here is where I wanted to get. I'm proud to show what became of my clay beads in the hands of  Alessia, of Beads and Tricks. My beads, her taste and skill.

Grazie!
Alessia
